COVID-19 Measures

The safety of our guests, our employees, our suppliers and other stakeholders is of the utmost importance. We are extremely cautious about this, which is why we will only start one month after the permitted reopening date (8 June 2020) (i.e. on 3 July 2020). This has given us the extra time and space to prepare everything in a very good way. On our website we give a list of measures we have taken to combat the COVID-19 coronavirus. Please take note of this.

Heuvelland has very few corona infections

Some news that can certainly interest our hotel and/or restaurant guests. New figures have been announced on the number of corona infections per region. Well, Heuvelland & Ypres, are among the least contaminated areas of the country. If that's not good news.

Our situation is similar to that of the deep Ardennes. Did you know that in Heuvelland there have only been... 21 contaminations in total since the outbreak of the crisis? That's about 265 contaminations per 100,000 inhabitants. In some regions in Belgium this is up to 4 times higher: more than 1,000 infections per 100,000 inhabitants. A significant difference, that much is clear.

Would you like to see for yourself the corona figures of Heuvelland, Ypres or your region ? That's possible! See the article in "The Latest News". The attached map shows the number of new infections in the last week. "Sciensano" has two thresholds: 20 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the last week, and an upward trend for five days. After that, the municipality gets an 'alert'.

"Anyway, this is a great boost for tourism and the locals. It is always a plus when you know that the corona contamination risk in Heuvelland and Ypres is lower than elsewhere. It can only be an extra incentive for the Belgian to come and visit this very beautiful region. In any case, we will stay closed for an extra 3 weeks (until July 3rd to be precise) in order to further reduce even this small risk. We are known to be very careful, especially in this matter," said Philippe Vercoutter, host of Hostellerie Mont Kemmel ****.

Hostellerie Mont Kemmel **** reopens on July 3, 2020.

The management of Hostellerie Mont Kemmel **** has decided to keep the hotel (with restaurant, party room and seminar centre) closed until at least Thursday 2 July 2020.

Although the Security Council announced on 3 June 2020 that the hotel and catering industry may reopen from 8 June 2020, serious questions remain about the interpretation, feasibility and implementation of several of the proposed measures. Until today, the final rules are still not known / published in the Belgian Official Gazette. Furthermore, there are still many questions regarding the legal consequences and the profitability to be achieved. As required by Belgian law, sales may not be made at a loss.

As a result of all this, the management decided to stay closed during the month of June. The coming weeks will make it clear how we can offer 100% security for our guests (health, conviviality, etc.), our staff (health, stress) and the business (profitability, legal risks).

Bookings can already be made for stays from Friday 3 July 2020. Should there be any new developments in the course of June 2020 that would jeopardize one or the other, we will inform everyone as soon as possible. The health and well-being of our guests and staff is number 1. This has always been the case and will continue to be the case.
