Hostellerie Mont Kemmel **** has been
thoroughly renovated in recent years. Proof of these renovations: see the many photos below. It's a real boutique hotel, some will call it a charm hotel. According to TripAdvisor, the hotel now belongs to the (Not bad if you know that there are more than 1,000 small hotels in Belgium). On this page you will find pictures of no less than
14 very concrete examples of what the property looked like in 2012 (just before the takeover) and now. A world of difference by carefully renovating. The hotel / restaurant / seminar center has not lost its charm of yesteryear and has managed to preserve the atmosphere of an authentic mountain hotel. Guests have all the modern facilities they could wish for: luxury jacuzzis, rain showers, LED internet tv's, high speed internet (Wifi), and so on.
Each time you will see 2 photos: one of the current situation (after renovation) and one photo of the situation as it was in 2012. Click on that photo to see a larger version. Tip Pure nostalgia! The courtyard / car park became a landscaped garden with...
The courtyard Hostellerie Mont Kemmel **** used to be an unattractive car park in pink-red gravel. Suppliers brought their merchandise to the former garage (which used to be on this square). Now it has become a beautiful landscaped garden.
Nice example of one of the renovations that were carried out. In order to reach the party room / seminar centre in the past, you had to descend a steep service staircase and go through an unattractive corridor (partly storage room with many white cupboards). The staircase was replaced by a beautiful spiral staircase and the corridor was completely redesigned. There are now five paintings by the former owner/baroness Marie-Antoinette de Montalembert d'Essé (wife of Baron Jacques Bruneel de la Warande). This hall has become particularly attractive.
The reception / lobby of the
The Hostellerie Mont Kemmel **** lobby has been thoroughly renovated over the past few years, while retaining the authentic elements such as the banister, the bar's display cabinets and wooden accents. Floors have been completely renewed, LED lighting provided, a new reception area, a light wall of 20 m² and much more. The former colour scheme of red and green was replaced by cream white and dark brown. This colour scheme was also extended throughout the building.
Lobby on the first floor...
The formerly unattractive wall in the lobby was fitted with an impressive light wall at the beginning of 2020. You can now see the forest hyacinths of the Kemmelberg on a giant photo of no less than 20 m² (8 metres by 2.5 metres). Modern, mostly Philips Hue based, LED lighting was also provided.
VIP room 201 has been created using 2 old, small staff rooms. These were completely gutted and re-dressed with high quality materials. They were also provided with design furniture.
Where VIP room 202 is now, there used to be two rooms for the staff: one room (still used by a chef) and a changing room. A passageway was made between these two rooms and they were completely gutted and re-dressed with quality materials.
VIP room 204 was designed on the basis of a former private apartment. On that spot there used to be a kitchen, dining area and small living room. These spaces were completely stripped to the bone. Ceilings were raised and the dormer window was uncovered. Walls, ceiling and floor were very well insulated thermally and acoustically. At one of the two windows overlooking the valley a beautiful jacuzzi was placed. Unique in Flanders!
All ECO and Standard rooms were completely redesigned: new furniture, new TVs, old carpets removed and replaced by design parquet, and so on. In the meantime, since taking this picture, all doors have also been replaced by new acoustic and fire resistant doors. Some bathrooms of the standard rooms have also been renovated.
When you valley side look outside on one of the many balconies you can see very well what a great result the many renovations have led to. Our guests no longer look out on a dreary pink parking lot, but on a landscaped garden. All balconies were fitted with new natural stone floors and design furniture.
VIP room 206 was made on the basis of two old children's rooms. One of them was also later used by our famous Head Waiter Jean-Pierre Scharre (unfortunately deceased at the end of March 2020). The two rooms, located on the top facade just above the entrance, were completely stripped, the partition wall removed, well insulated, equipped with a Jacuzzi and rain shower and very nicely finished.
VIP room 205 was created from a former room member of the service staff. Everything was first stripped down to the basic structure of the building and completely rebuilt. Since then it has room welcomed members of the royal family, heads of government, etc. . This room can be taken together with VIP room 204 and function as one apartment.
The main Hostellerie Mont Kemmel **** terraces were all broken out and fitted with natural stone flooring. The old blue-green awning was also replaced by a new one with more contemporary natural colours.
Stairs to the garden floor...
Completely new staircase for access to the garden floor of Hostellerie Mont Kemmel ****, including bronze handrail (similar to the handrail of the main staircase to the rooms of the first floor). This staircase replaced the old, steep service staircase.
The "Saturn" room of Hostellerie Mont Kemmel **** was created from a former garage (which at the time served as a storage room). A beautiful sliding window was placed where a wall and garage door used to be. The ceiling was lowered and is full of up-to-date equipment such as air conditioning, LED lighting, high-end audio, and so on.
These are just a few pictures illustrating the renovations that took place in Hostellerie Mont Kemmel ****. Visit us and come and see this many beauties with your own eyes.
